Adolfo Caetano's Scale Models

Adolfo Caetano Netto lives at Pato Branco, in the brazilian province of Paraná. There, he makes his small models at a 1:100 scale factor.

Their models are very delicate, beautifull and detailed, specially whem you take into account the little scale and employed materials.

I don't know what are the employed techniques at all, but it is clear that each of these models are fruits of their creativity and research job. In other words, they're trully alternative models in all the aspects of this word.

The use of their own techniques not included in my tutorials (I suppose by the models characteristics) is a proof that there are several possibilities to the use of common home use material, and a proof that marvellous work can be done at the alternative modeling hobby.

Whem I say in this website that with perseverance and persistence some people certainly shoud make alternative models too, some of them better them me, some other not as good as me, I was not wrong at all. Adolfo attested that thesis of mine! He have presented an extremely precise and precious work! It is full of happyness that I present to you the work of one more alternative modeler!

Even if you to use your own techniques, not the mines, show your work too, the same way Adolfo Caetano done. Contribute to this community too. To find other good works and to share ideas is extraordinary!

These are the six models of what Adolfo have sent pics to me:

A-4 Skyhawk

This mockup was not finished at moment it was photographed...

See the model's precision of details and delicacy. He has represented the cockpit in a 1:100 paper scale model!

MIG-15

That mockup was not finished at moment the photograph was taken.

Here we have an excelent possibility to observe the Adolfo's models structure, since this amazing 1:100 MIG-15 was not painted yet... See the landing gears complexity. Amazing!

Fokker Dr.I "Red Baron"

The extreme Adolfo's model miniaturization isn't a barrier to him to show important details in their models, even considering the fragile nature of the employed materials.

Fokker DV VII

Certainly these are not models to anyone to touch... See the extreme delicacy of this Fokker DV VII tail.

My alternative models were made to be strong, and to possibility some movemen too. I will relax, althought, in the scale fit of some avionics and of the landing gears. I have the habit to play by saying that all of my models were introduced to the world by falling from the table. All of them falled from the workbench at least one time, for sure, but none suffered extensive or irreversible damage. Adolfo, by their way, seens to search for detail precision, and appearently makes totally static models.

These models probably can't fall on the floor, but we must remember that their models are lighter them these of mine...

How many work possibilits the Alternative Modeling will bring to us? It is impossible to say! Just by see the Adolfo's models, you will see who Adolfo have care with some details I never cared about to represent in my much bigger models!

Fokker E III

See now the delicacy of that model... Amazing, no?!

Spad XIII

From left to right, these are the Spad XIII and another view of the Fokker DV VII.

See all the details Adolfo has just represented in these models!

Nieuport 11

One more WWI beautifull model from Adolfo's collection...

It is impressive how Adolfo can reproduce the aircraft model in a so small scale...

MIG-21

What is more impressive to me in this model is the metalic aspect of this model. According to Adolfo, in one of his e-mails: "In this MIG-21 model the paint schema was achieved with spray ink, proper to paint bicycles. I don't like this type of ink, since it is much difficult to paint with it". According to Adolfo, the best paint method is that to what each person adapt better. See that Adolfo has tried some methods, including automotive spray and aluminum folds to achieve this metalic aspect. His preferred method is automotove spray, however...

Apache

This Apache chopper wasn't finished at the moment of the picture...

Even incomplete, is impressive too see the complexity of the model.

Enterprise

Wow, here are something strange! It isn't an airship... Why is this spaceship presented in this website section? It is because I don't know if Adolfo has any more spaceships in his collection. If in the future Adolfo send to me more spaceship pictures, I will remove Enterprise from here and change it to a new proper section. By now, you shoud consider it is here because it "flies".

This model of the Star Trek 60's series Enterprise was made at a scale factor of about 1/1000.

The materials Adolfo has used to assembly these models were:

  • Paper Sheets;
  • White Glue;
  • Isopor (supermarket meat bags);
  • Wooden Sticks;
  • Steel Wire (electrical cables.);
  • Cyanoacrylate;

He painted the models with hobby acrylic ink from Tamiya. The prints, marks and signs were made from common print paper painted and glued over the model's surface.
